about

From 'The Miniature Music Press' June 2010
Having featured Ceri Frost a few months ago and been granted a fleeting insight into CUI, the MMP had been waiting, lips moist, for its full release. It begins with It All Went Dark, a beautifully sinister piece that initially sounds like a dystopian church choir being launched into space. Dig Way Down is somewhere between early era Dandy Warhols and Super Furry Animals but laced with a quirky identity of its own. This is partly thanks to Frost's childlike, vaguely surreal lyricism and partly down to his dense sonic patchworks. She Sells Sea Shells brings gloriously produced psychedelia and a dreamy Eastern style cameo from a banjo. Afghans And Soviets is reminiscent of some lost 80's synth/pop classic while Evil Amelie has a touch of Ringo Starr style tomfoolery. Remarkably it all works! CUI is a beguiling LP featuring lovingly engraved songs that benefit from multiple listens. A stunning debut.
